The aviation standard EN 9100:2018
EN 9100:2018 is a standard for the design, development, production, assembly and maintenance of aviation, aerospace and defence companies. It also covers the disciplines and obligations of a corresponding sales organisation. The standard focuses on the special awareness and requirements of the aviation industry, e.g. in the areas of documentation and verification, traceability, process stability and delivery monitoring and control.
For certification according to the standard, it is not decisive what and how much is produced.
It is crucial that all processes reflect the focus on development and production for the industry and are within the strict specifications: from component design and prototype construction to series production support.
The product range
The REHAU Profile Solutions sub-division has been a recognised partner and 1st-tier supplier for OEMs in aircraft construction worldwide for several decades. The reference list is impressive: it includes well-known manufacturers in the industry such as AIRBUS, BOEING, ATR, AVIC, DAHER, DIEHL, STELIA, FACC and SAFRAN. The REHAU product range includes various systems and components for cabin interiors.
An attempt was already made in the past to achieve EN 9100 certification. Unfortunately, this had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Since then, the framework conditions for manufacturers and suppliers have changed. The focus has shifted to low-emission aircraft and sustainability, changing the requirements and verification obligations. The use of regrind materials - materials that are sorted and processed and reintroduced into production as regranulate - has also been approved by some manufacturers in the aircraft industry.
Boosting the future
With the recent successful certification audit at the REHAU locations in Rehau and Feuchtwangen, the REHAU Profile Solutions sub-division has now reached a memorable milestone in the development, manufacture and sale of aerospace components for the future.
Thomas Wangler, Director Sales & Aerospace Profile Solutions at REHAU, summarises:
‘I am very pleased about this team success. The basis was and is the trust within our organisation, but also the trust of our long-standing partners and customers.’
