In the current sustainability report for 2023, REHAU provides a detailed insight into the sustainability activities of the globally active REHAU Industries subgroup. Extensive preparations have already been made to report in accordance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) from the next financial year.
REHAU started its voluntary sustainability reporting back in 2011 and has been continuously and transparently disclosing the company's development ever since. In the current sustainability report for 2023, REHAU now provides an in-depth insight into the globally active REHAU Industries subgroup with its Building Solutions, Interior Solutions, Industrial Solutions and Window Solutions divisions as well as the cross-divisional central functions.
After focusing on the three ESG dimensions of environment, society and governance last year, the company is now going one step further: structures and processes have been created and well-founded data collected in order to report in accordance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) from the next financial year. “It is important to prepare for the new sustainability regulations at an early stage,” explains Andreas Jenne, Head of Sustainability at REHAU Industries. “This not only entails structural changes, but also allows us to take an even closer look at our activities and potential.”
Driving the circular economy forward
In this context, the transformation from a linear to a circular economy is a particularly important topic for REHAU as a production company. This report shows that the product take-back projects initiated in the divisions have been continued and further lighthouse projects in the product area have been introduced to the market. In this way, REHAU Industries was able to significantly exceed the targets set for 2025 for the use of recyclate across all products. In the reporting year, the previous target of 15% recycled content in the EMEA region was therefore extended to 20% worldwide by 2025.
Leveraging additional potential
The current sustainability report also reveals that there are still major differences in terms of reducing emissions at the individual plants, particularly outside the EMEA region. However, the goal for REHAU Industries remains to achieve zero emissions in Scope 1 and 2, i.e. zero tons of CO2e, by 2035 at the latest. “We want to step up our activities in this area and gradually become a sustainable company,” emphasizes Jenne. And the company is on the right track: REHAU Industries currently generates 65 percent of the electricity consumed by its plants from renewable energy sources. As a result, emissions were reduced by 53 percent in 2023 compared to the base year 2018.
