REHAU Window Solutions continues to consistently expand its position as a pioneer and industry driver for forward-looking sustainability. The premium system provider is now laying the foundation for a photovoltaic system that will supply the Polish site in Śrem with green energy. The measure is one of many as part of REHAU Window Solutions' clear strategic roadmap, which anchors sustainability as a guiding principle at all levels of the entire organisation.
Erlangen, 31 October 2024 – REHAU Window Solutions will soon be benefiting from green electricity from a photovoltaic solar system at its Polish site in Śrem. EDP Energia Polska will install and operate a corresponding system there as a cooperation partner of REHAU Window Solutions. The cooperation has initially been agreed for 20 years. The photovoltaic system will supply energy to production facilities and storage units in Śrem. As part of its global sustainability strategy, the premium system house will thus significantly expand its independence in terms of energy supply.
Carsten Heuer: Projects such as our current PV offensive here in Poland are crucial for the competitiveness of our partners and customers.
‘REHAU Window Solutions takes responsibility for practising sustainability and thus for its partners and customers, too. The premium system house is consistently expanding its status as a pioneer in the industry for innovative sustainability - entirely in the interests of its partners and customers with a full focus on future viability, competitive advantages and profitability. Projects such as our current PV offensive here in Poland impressively demonstrate REHAU Window Solutions' ability to act and its determination to consistently implement its sustainability strategy. The product strategies of REHAU Window Solutions and the recycled profiles produced here at the site are therefore decisive for the competitiveness of our partners and customers. At the same time, one of REHAU Window Solutions' three recycling plants is located here. The combination of circular economy in our products and low CO2 production is trendsetting. Consequently, we are implementing them consistently and holistically. This directly increases the competitiveness of our partners and customers, and our product portfolio is already excellently equipped to meet challenges such as the Green Deal or the EU taxonomy,’ says Carsten Heuer, CEO of REHAU Window Solutions.
The photovoltaic system consists of around 2,800 modules and saves more than 1,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year during operation. This corresponds to the annual carbon dioxide absorption of more than 182,000 mature trees.
‘As one of the largest employers in the region, we endeavour to fulfil our role and responsibility towards society and the environment in the best possible way. The installation of a photovoltaic system brings direct benefits for REHAU Window Solutions, such as a reduction in operating costs through more efficient use of energy and raw materials,’ says Jerzy Kruszelnicki, Plant Manager Śrem REHAU Window Solutions.
REHAU Window Solutions: Living sustainability conserves resources, underlines social responsibility and optimises costs.
The system has a capacity of 1.6 MWp. REHAU Window Solutions will thus drive forward its energy self-sufficiency on site and ultimately make a significant contribution to the energy transition and decarbonisation of European industry. This sustainability in practice not only conserves resources, but also underlines social responsibility and optimises costs.
‘The decarbonisation of industry is one of the greatest challenges and at the same time one of the greatest opportunities. The project with REHAU Window Solutions is a further step towards a clean transformation,’ says Ireneusz Kulka, Country Manager EDP Energia Polska.
The new photovoltaic system is one of numerous concerted measures as part of REHAU Window Solutions' global sustainability strategy. Since 2023, a photovoltaic system covering an area of 1.8 hectares has been supplying the Erlangen/Eltersdorf site with green energy. It covers 60 percent of the site's own electricity requirements and reduces the CO2 footprint by around 630 tonnes per year. REHAU Window Solutions continues to provide its partners and customers with innovative options to remain sustainably successful in markets worldwide. Practising sustainability based on a clear strategy is a decisive factor in this.
