“I like the natural look of RAUVISIO ingrain. The pattern and texture are unique— not many products have that texture and color combined with edgeband quality. REHAU is top of the market with their quality.”

Sustainable sophistication: Woodgrain surface revitalizes Italian family’s kitchen with luxurious texture and warmth

In the Toronto suburbs, an Italian family decided to renovate the main floor of their 3,000-sq-ft home, aiming to modernize their rustic kitchen while maintaining an inviting atmosphere for guests.

“The challenge was creating a space that balanced two different tastes,” said Paris Kaymanesh, design team leader at Forma Fine Cabinetry. “One of the clients wanted sleek, contemporary finishes while the other wanted warm, textured elements.”

To include both styles, Forma Fine Cabinetry designed a kitchen with two surface shades, featuring stone-gray matte paired with RAUVISIO ingrain Whispering Walnut. This sustainable wood fiber laminate surface contrasts the contemporary glossy flooring and solid-colored matte cabinets, bringing warmth and captivating texture to the space.

RAUVISIO ingrain was integrated into the kitchen’s range hood and island, which seamlessly blends into a dining table for an open, welcoming space perfect for the family’s gatherings. Additionally, an accent wall in the dining room features RAUVISIO ingrain, extending elegant warmth beyond the kitchen.

“The clients wanted the look of real wood, and RAUVISIO ingrain offered the wood texture they were looking for,” Kaymanesh said. “The dark yet warm chocolate color was also the exact shade they wanted. The first time I showed them the sample, they were in.”

RAUVISIO ingrain combines wood fibers with synchronized etching for a luxurious veneer aesthetic. The wood fiber laminate is made of cellulose fibers derived from wood pulp and bonded using vegetable-based adhesives, resulting in a sustainable surface that boasts natural beauty.

Matt Takallou, owner of Forma Fine Cabinetry, noted the realistic texture of RAUVISIO ingrain. “I like the natural look of RAUVISIO ingrain,” he said. “The pattern and texture are unique— not many products have that texture and color combined with edgeband quality. REHAU is top of the market with their quality.”

The science behind the deeply textured look of RAUVISIO ingrain is synchronized etching, a proprietary technology which adds visual dimension to a wood-fiber core by applying a patterned matte and low gloss finish.

The entrancing high definition of RAUVISIO ingrain was continued with REHAU LaserEdge duo-gloss technology. This next-generation edge combines color, gloss and embossing patterns for a flawless appearance between the surface and edgeband. Forma is equipped with machines featuring hot air technology, allowing them to provide their clients with seamless, high-end cabinetry.

“We use REHAU LaserEdge whenever we can,” said Takallou. “Its seamless joint not only contributes to a modern look but also prevents yellow stains and separation due to its solid bond. This results in a nicer, more durable finish. It’s especially beneficial to use around applications near sinks or dishwashers, as it resists warping.”

Balancing beauty and functionality, the cabinetry features several built-in elements designed to maximize storage, including a spice rack and a recycling center by Hailo. Blum systems were additionally integrated throughout the kitchen, including their LEGRABOX drawers with soft-close technology and AVENTOS lift system with a push-to-open mechanism for convenience.

According to Kaymanesh, the space has already seen its fair share of guests, some traveling all the way from Italy. “The clients are very happy with how the renovation turned out,” she shared. “My ultimate goal is to ensure my clients love the end result, so I approach each project as if it were my own. All of my projects are deeply personal to me— by the end, it feels like my home too!”
