Fairlawns botique hotel and SPA chooses REHAU windows
The exclusive five-star Fairlawns Boutique Hotel and Spa is an oasis of lush gardens and quiet style set in the midst of upmarket Sandton, in the bustling metropolis of Johannesburg, South Africa.
The newly-built Château wing of Fairlawns was completed in May 2010 just in time for the FIFA 2010 World Cup. The owners, John and Anna Thacker, had the building erected with energy efficiency as their primary consideration.
The Château consists of 20 spaciously-appointed double rooms with en-suite bathrooms. The owners chose REHAU’s Tritec window system with double glazing to ensure an optimal temperature inside the building throughout the year. Fabricated by Teva Windows and Doors, the Tritec uPVC frames were foiled to compliment the timber frames of the existing Fairlawns buildings.
Further energy efficient applications include a solar thermal system, which heats the water and under-floor heating for the hotel. In the event of inclement and/or extraordinary cold weather conditions, the solar thermal system is backed up with a standby gas supply.
The chilled water system has an exceptionally low electricity requirement and is used in place of conventional air-conditioning. The heat generated by the chilling system is captured by a heat exchanger and transferred to the solar water heating system thereby minimising any loss of energy.
A fully operational Grey Water system has been installed as well. All bath and shower water is collected together with the rain water and used for garden irrigation.
