Customs and Purchasing Internship

When I was in high school, I participated in a program called Leadership Loudon Youth, where we toured different businesses in the local area. We toured REHAU, and I learned how involved it was as a company. When it came time to look for an internship, REHAU was the first to come to mind.  I knew I wanted to apply to as it was a good company, but it was also local – so for someone like me who isn’t a morning person, it allowed me to have a job that’s only a 5 minute commute.

This is my second summer working here. Last summer, I worked in the Customs Department and this summer, I worked in both the Customs and Purchasing Departments. My first day back felt very familiar.  It felt good to be back at my desk and in a comfortable space. I had a great relationship with my supervisors, Robin Lynn and Cindy Ingels. They explained not only what I was supposed to be doing, but also why I was doing it – connecting and giving me insight into their jobs.

Throughout my internship, I deleted old suppliers from SAP, updated the SharePoint site with Current COI, updated the Restricted Party Screening site for Amber Roads and ensured NAFTA’s had correct data.  Deleting old suppliers from SAP really made a difference within the company – as it ended up saving the company money. It felt good to be a part of this. However, my most interesting internship experience was putting together an uncoiler. I helped make sure the directions were easy to follow and user-friendly.

From someone who has been here two summers, I would tell future interns two things: (1) Don’t be afraid to ask your managers any questions that you have - they’re here to help and they want you to learn. (2) Get to know your fellow interns, because it makes the experience a lot more fun.
