Lightweight and flexible
Work your way through the trench without the need for extra couplings, fittings or labor. MUNICIPEX has a much tighter bend radius compared to other pipe options and is up to 70% lighter than copper, making it easy to handle, carry and uncoil.

Size and length options
MUNICIPEX has you covered with sizes from ¾ to 2 in. and coil lengths up to 1,000 ft (304.8 m).

Kink resistant
Leave the repair clamps in your truck. More flexible than HDPE and copper, MUNICIPEX resists kinking. If kinked, MUNICIPEX bounces back due to its high degree of crosslinking and thermal memory, designed to retain its shape for life.

Job planning made easy
MUNICIPEX has consecutive footage marks printed every 3 feet so you always know exactly how much pipe is left in the roll, minimizing scrap and waste.

Compatibility
Produced in copper tube size (CTS), MUNICIPEX is compatible with AWWA C800, ASTM F1055 electrofusion, and other polymer and lead-free brass expansion, compression, and push fittings approved for underground potable water applications, so you can stick with the products, tools and processes that work best for you and your crew.

UV resistant
MUNICIPEX upholds its prime with 1-year UV resistance, based on testing to ASTM F2657. For extra peace of mind, we ship our pipe in boxes for an added layer of protection.

Freeze-break resistant
Say goodbye to dreaded pipe repair jobs after a tough winter. Unlike copper or HDPE, which can become brittle and snap after freezing, MUNICIPEX comes back to its shape with full force. Thermal memory allows it to expand when frozen, then return to its original diameter after thawing.

Impact and abrasion resistant
The PEXa crosslinked molecules within MUNICIPEX resemble a chain-linked fence: When faced with brute force, they bounce back. MUNICIPEX absorbs kinetic energy from hard impact and resists deformation, leading to lasting impact and abrasion resistance.

Crack growth resistant
Polymer chains band together to create long-lasting durability, granting MUNICIPEX higher resistance to slow crack growth (SCG) than non-crosslinked pipe such as HDPE.

What is PEXa?

REHAU began producing PEXa in 1967. When our company founder, Helmut Wagner, partnered with Dr. Thomas Engel to begin producing an alternative to traditional rigid piping systems. They were ahead of their time.

Today, we use the same process with decades of experience perfecting the craft as the basis pipe for our MUNICIPEX^® family of products. Since we pioneered the flexible, crosslinked polyethylene we have been innovating ways to lead the industry in consistency. We back our product with a 25-year limited warranty.

Advantages over copper and HDPE

MUNICIPEX is a clean, cost-effective municipal piping alternative that surpasses many of the performance properties of copper and HDPE. Unlike other municipal lines that need frequent repairs or replacements, MUNICIPEX is not susceptible to corrosion and mineral buildup. It has freeze-break resistance properties, demonstrates impact and abrasion resistance, and has excellent resistance to chlorine and other chemicals.
