REHAU Group receives Green Award from Door and Window Market magazine

Global polymer-based systems manufacturer proves its commitment through dedication to reuse and recycling of materials.

Door and Window Market (DWM) magazine recently chose the REHAU Group as a recipient of its annual Green Awards in the category of Commitment. Each year, the magazine’s editors conduct extensive research to gather and compare information leading to selection of six companies, brands, products and individuals that are striving to make a difference through sustainability.

“We spent hours going through REHAU’s annual reports and environmental impact statements, gathering pages of evidence for the company’s dedication to environmental responsibility,” says DWM editor, Drew Vass. “The company’s leadership says, ‘Sometimes this means taking tough decisions that put planet before profit and people before products,’ and based on its well-documented efforts, we believe they mean it.”

The editors found that REHAU’s dedication to the concept of a “circular economy” dates back to the 1950s, when officials began their quest to close internal material loops in order to produce greater reuse of materials. At its facility in Runcorn, Cheshire, England, recycled PVC windows are shredded and granulated, then used to create new, co-extruded products. The company’s window production produces up to 88% fewer CO2 emissions than it would using new materials and today 20% of its factories run entirely on renewable energy.

With a presence in 170 locations worldwide, the company is a member of 10 climate and environment-related associations and four initiatives, and participates in working groups to establish sustainability standards. By 2025, it aims to cut CO2 emissions by at least 30%.

In May 2020, the REHAU Group clearly demonstrated its commitment to responsible corporate governance and sustainability by signing the UN Global Compact. “We are constantly working with all our divisions to evaluate our sustainability strategy and continue to develop it,” affirms William Christensen, CEO of the REHAU Group.

REHAU was featured in DWM's November-December issue and given a special 2020 Green Awards commemorative plaque to display in its corporate offices.
