RAUTHERMEX pipework installed in award winning resort

REHAU’s popular RAUTHERMEX pre-insulated district heating pipework has been installed in the latest phase at the award winning Bluestone holiday resort in Pembrokeshire.  More than 1500m of REHAU’s highly thermally efficient pipework is now delivering heat and hot water to 65 new eco-friendly timber frame lodges installed on the site.

RAUTHERMEX was specified on the project after REHAU’s technical design team demonstrated how the pipe sizes required could be cost effectively reduced, just by optimising the flow and return temperatures within the heating and hot water system.

In general, the greater the difference in flow/return temperatures, the smaller the pipe sizes which are required on a heat network project and, at Bluestone, REHAU was able to show how the pipe could be reduced from 125mm to 90mm in places.  This made a real impact in terms of the capital cost of the installation and contributed towards reductions in thermal losses.

At Bluestone, RAUTHERMEX has been installed in both single and twin pipe configurations and in sizes from 50mm to 90mm in single pipe and 25mm to 63mm in double pipe.  Twin pipe is obviously more cost effective to install than separate single pipe runs and has better overall efficiency.  Coupled with RAUTHERMEX’s outstanding thermal performance, this has helped to deliver an overall installation which meets the requirements of Bluestone in terms of low running costs and environmental performance.

The pipework installation was carried out by Bluestone’s own team working at all times to minimise on site disruption to the holiday makers at the site.  The project therefore took several months as the lodges were delivered in phases and handed over to suit key holiday periods.
