The Cedar Views
An attractive family home, ‘The Cedar Views‘ has recently been built on the south-western fringes of Woking, adjacent to a popular period property – The Strawberry Tree.
The new building was designed by local architects BBF Fielding and needed to complement the charm and character of its neighbouring period building. It was a requirement that products installed, including the windows, were in keeping with the traditional features of The Strawberry Tree while also providing the convenience and quality of new modern products.
Saqib Butt, the owner of the Strawberry Tree property, said: “We were on the lookout for windows that would complement the original design and aesthetic of the period neighbouring building, while also having all the benefits of modern PVC-U windows. After looking at multiple samples from different manufacturers, we decided upon the REHAU Heritage Sliding sash windows.
“We were amazed by how REHAU’s windows were so in keeping with what we were after. They have met and exceeded all of our requirements and are performing exceptionally well, especially in terms of its thermal efficiency.”
The REHAU Heritage Vertical sash window profile has been developed following extensive consultation with conservation bodies and housing associations. The system offers a wide range of benefits that complements the features of traditional windows while offering all the benefits of PVC. Sympathetic in style yet innovative in design, the REHAU Heritage Vertical Slider presents a whole world of new opportunity in both the replacement and new build markets.
It offers triple chambered profiles which help to ensure the building is well insulated. It also offers an ‘A’ Window Energy Rating (WER) by only using the standard components of the window and without the need for any extra thermal inserts.
Chris Whiteman, Architect at BBF Fielding who were commissioned for the project, said: “I have the same REHAU windows installed at my own Victorian property. The heritage range is an excellent replacement for the original timber sliding sashes. The frames are elegant and narrow, just like the originals, but they are thermally efficient and low maintenance. When our client was looking for suitable windows, which would complement the period style of the property, I did not hesitate to recommend the REHAU Heritage sliding sash windows. We looked at various manufacturers but none of them came even close to the REHAU product in terms of aesthetics.“
“Kevin O’Neill Commercial Manager with REHAU came to present us with samples of the heritage windows, we reviewed these alongside samples from different manufacturers in order to compare and contrast the different products. Because of how closely the windows matched the original timber framed windows, the client was set on the REHAU windows from the get-go. The aesthetics as well as the performance of the windows, were the biggest drivers in the client’s choice and we have been thrilled with the feedback and the results.”
Specialist fabricator of the REHAU Heritage window, Roseview Windows was commissioned to fabricate the windows.
What makes this product truly stand out is its ability to allow period window features to be preserved, while having the long-lasting reliability of PVC-U windows. Traditional design details and sightlines of a timber box sash window, with all the benefits of PVC-U make this system the ideal replacement sash window.
Traditional timber aesthetics can be replicated by combining sightlines of the 44mm, 54mm or 64mm heritage sashes, with the deep 81mm heritage bottom rail. The exterior of the sash is also fitted with putty-line aesthetics to further create a sense of the traditional design.
Mark Wright, owner at MA Wright, the main contractors on the project, said: “I’ve known REHAU for a long time now and have been using their windows for decades. The products are of a very good quality and always a pleasure to install. Also, in terms of budgetary requirements, these windows are a really great choice and provides another reason to choose this style.”
Kevin O’Neill from REHAU concluded: “It is always a pleasure to see great projects such as this take on a modern twist to its refurbishment, while simultaneously keeping some aspects of the overall building’s heritage. The REHAU Heritage windows are a great fit for this new property, as they match the original period aesthetic, as well as providing the benefits of a modern PVC-U windows system and we are confident the owners will continue to reap the benefits in years to come.”
